Rain Forest Weekends at Roaring Camp

Learn about California’s own rain forest…its forests of coastal redwoods. Roaring Camp is offering weekend excursions of the rain forest by rail Saturdays and Sundays from Jan 6 to Mar 25, 2018. Located in the Santa Cruz Mountains just a few miles from the ocean, winter in California’s rain forest is most dramatic. As visitors ride at branch level through a virgin forest by steam train, a narrator imparts fascinating information about the local eco-system of California redwood forests.

Internationally Renowned Performances at the Sunset Center

Carmel-by-the-Sea’s historic Sunset Center will host incredible, internationally acclaimed performances, making a road trip to quaint Carmel-by-the-Sea well worth the journey. Highlights include author Anne Lamott (Jan 19), The Second City (Feb 15), Black Violin (Feb 16), One Night of Queen (Feb 21) and the incomparable k.d. lang (March 1). Tall Ships in Ventura Harbor

Tall Ships, Hawaiian Chieftain and Lady Washington, commence their annual voyage along the California coast and sail into Ventura Harbor at noon on Feb 13, and remain through March 5. Ships depart for Battle and Adventure Sales weekly, and a Valentine’s Day sail has been added on Feb 14 aboard Lady Washington.

Closing ceremonies after 6 weeks of friendly business to business competitions take place annually at Harbor Cove Beach in the Ventura Harbor. Mission to Mars Launch from VAFB

NASA is aiming for May 2018 as the next available window to launch its Insight (Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport) spacecraft on a mission to Mars from Vandenberg Airforce Base, near Lompoc. This will be the only interplanetary launch in six decades from VAFB, and the first mission to focus on the deep interior of Mars. Date subject to change. Official public viewing is off of Corral Road near Vandenberg's main gate. Onsite parking.

Annual West Coast Cub Fly-In

Acclaimed as one of the nation’s top fly-in events for historic aircraft, the annual West Coast Cub Fly-In allows visitors to walk among the aircraft, observe flying events and interact with pilots. More than 100 planes are expected to participate. Bring a lawn chair and your camera, and enjoy all of the activities! Free parking is limited on site; additional parking nearby. Dogs must be on leashes and parents must closely watch children due to the presence of taxing aircraft.
