Monterey Bay Aquarium
Explore the ocean wilderness that is Monterey Bay
There are aquariums – and then there’s the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Located on Monterey’s historic Cannery Row and overlooking the vast national marine sanctuary it explores, this jewel of California ‘s scenic central coast been rated as one of the top aquariums by TripAdvisor® – the world’s largest travel site.
Check out the newest exhibit, ¡Viva Baja! Life on the Edge featuring animals from Baja’s deserts, mangrove forests and coral reefs. “Tentacles” is a special exhibition and first of it’s kind that reveals the secret lives of octopuses, cuttlefishes, squid and nautilus. Both bizarre and beautiful, they’re quick-change artists and masters of disguise. The three-story living Kelp Forest Exhibit is unique and awe-inspiring, recreating the underwater forest that lies just beyond the Aquarium’s decks. Gawk and awe in front of the million-gallon Open Sea exhibit, which puts you eye-to-eye with sharks, sea turtles, tunas, ocean sunfish and a vast sardine school.
The aquarium is open daily except December 25. If you’re staying overnight, many local hotels sell two-day tickets at one day prices available only to their guests.
